East New Market Railroad Depot

The Dorchester and Delaware Railroad was incorporated on February 6, 1866 to build a rail line between Cambridge and the Delaware State line.  Ground was broken in Cambridge on October 23, 1867.  By November 1868, the line was completed to East New Market for "construction trains".  On November 8, 1869, the railroad began operation between Seaford and Cambridge.  The East New Market Depot was likely built in 1869 or 1870.

The following photo was taken in 1918.  Collection of Marc Bramble.  Click on the image for a downloadable copy (right click) at three times the size.

On Saturday we took the back track without a point decided upon for locating at, but resting between New Market on the Dorchester & Delaware Railroad, where it is said you can get comfort (at Bramble's house) and good shooting combined, and the Virginia peninsula.
