On Board Steamer Kent
April 9th 1863
To Major Genl Schenck
Dear Sir
Permit me to introduce to your acquaintance Doctor A. L. Manning who visits you City for the purpose of obtaining permission to leave his regiment ( 1st E. Shore Maryland) for a few weeks.
The Doctor is induced to ask the permission from the fact of the death of his brother-in-law Dr. Edmondson, leaving her life in a condition (?) of health that requires the constant attention of her friends.
I am sure he wants not ask it except under the peculiar circumstances arising from the death of his relative.
Thank (?)
With much respect,
Henry (?) H. Goldsborough
Brig General
