Elizabeth Green Potter; Caroline County, Maryland, The story passed down through the Potter family is that the General would not let his daughter marry John Collins. John did not meet the General's standards. Religion played a part in that the Potter's were Catholic and the Collins were Methodists. The story continues that Elizabeth continued to date John and married him less than a month after her father died in 1847. By the time they married Elizabeth was 55 and too old to have children.

In the same book a license was recorded for Mary Wilkinson marrying William Collins on July 8, 1815. So I believe Mary E Adams is the correct wife.

George Collins had a son William Collins. I am not 100% sure that this William Collins is the son of George. This William Collins apparently first appears in the 1840 Census in the nearby Chapel district of Talbot County. William is a common name among the handful of Collins families in Talbot County, but these families are from Trappe in the south part of Talbot County. The key to finding the answer is tracking this William Collins back in both counties.

In the 1830 Census in Caroline County, George Collins is listed as 60-70, with 1 male 30-40, 1 male 15-20, and 1 male 10-15. The other sons are accounted for, but both Abraham Y and William would be between 15-20 years old. Either Abraham Y or William would have to be living elsewhere if William (b. 1812) is a son of George. The 1830 Census records for their brother do not have an extra male age 15-20.

In the 1830 Census in Talbot County, the only Collins listed is Susan Collins. She is listed in Talbot South and has 2 males age 5-10. Further research shows that she had a son William. This son William (b. 1822) apparently remained in south Talbot County and married Leah Griffen.
Based on the information available William (b. 1812) is likely the son of George. However, futher research is needed.

There still exists a slight possibility she was a grandchild that was raised by Mary E (Adams) Collins. However, it is more likely she was just an unexpected surprise after her mother had thought childbearing years were over. Sarah E, her mother, and many of her siblings can not be found in the 1860 Census. Sarah E can not be found in the 1910 Census. I assume she died before 1910.

This Nicey Collins is not the same person as Nicey J Collins (b. 1838), daughter of Samuel G Collins, who married John Wright.

What happened to her after the 1860 Census? I could not find a marriage record or find her by searching by first name only in the 1870 or 1880 Census.
I did find a Nicy Collins age 50 in 1880 in Hillboro. She was a housekeeper for George E Ford and had 16 year old Annie Collins working with her. I presumed this was not the same Nicy since this one was likely a widow of a Collins, (Annie likely a daughter) and the age was 5 years off. Still could be the same person though. Needs research.
