Hiram Harris was born around 1834 in Lee County, Virginia. He was the son of William Harris and Catherine Ely. Hiram Harris enlisted as a Private in Company F, 64th Infantry Regiment of Virginia on 1 February 1863 in Jonesville, Virginia He deserted on 16 May 1863.
Hiram Harris married Martha E. Russell on 5 March 1869. They had at least four children.
(1) George W. Harris was born 5 December 1869 in Lee County Virginia He married Rennie Eliza Seale. She was born 12 December 1880, the daughter of John K. Seale and Ms. Smith.
(2) Mary J. Harris was born around 1871 in Lee County. She was working as a servant for the Myers family in White Shoals in 1900.
(3) R.C. Harris was born around 1872 in Lee County.
(4) R. E. Harris was born around 1875 in Lee County.
