Samuel Green Family Deeds

4 February 1842 - Samuel Green from Ezekiel Richardson - Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the 4th day of February 1842 to wit: 
Know all men by these presents that I Ezekiel Richardson for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars current money to me in hand paid by Samuel Green, colored man have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Samuel Green my negro woman named Kitty, about thirty six years of age, a slave for life and sound in body & mind.  To have and to hold the said negro woman Kitty as above bargained and sold unto the said Samuel Green his heirs executors administrators and assigns against me my heirs executors administrators and assigns and against all and every other person or persons shall & will warrant and defend - In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 4th day of February 1842.

State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit --- On this 4th day of February 1842 before me the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said county and State personally appeared Ezekiel Richardson and acknowledged the above bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed According to the true intent and memory thereof.

4 February 1842 - Samuel Green to Negro Kitty - Be it remembered that the following Manumission was recorded on the 4th day of February 1842 to wit To all whom it may concern.  Be it known that I Samuel Green of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free & by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my wife Kitty whom I this day purchased from Ezekiel Richardson being about the age of thirty six years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and for the said Kitty I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner and service or servitude to me my kin executors administrators or assigns forever.
In Testimony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 4th day of February 1842.

Dorchester County Certificates of Freedom

29 September 1855 - Kitty Green, negro woman, age about 49 years, 4' 9 3/4" high of a chestnut complexion with several scars on her right arm near the elbow, supposed to have been caused by a burn, and is the same negro woman sold by Ezekiel Green (the husband of said Kitty) and manumitted by the said Samuel Green on the same day and year aforesaid, said negro woman Kitty was born and raised in Dorchester County.  Identified by William A.
